MIGUEL A. DOMINGUEZ
Advocacy is more than just aligning yourself with a cause; it is making an impact on the lives of those that need it the most. Growing up under difficult circumstances in the south Bronx, New York, Mr. Dominguez developed a keen perception of the systemic barriers that prevent communities from thriving. Fueled by his personal experiences and driven by his desire to do justice, he rose from those difficult circumstances and worked tirelessly to position himself to become a voice of the voiceless.
Mr. Dominguez’ journey towards that goal began with him earning a degree in Psychology and African-American Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His early career began as a social worker serving the mentally-ill and homeless in Atlanta. He also served as a crisis intervention counselor on a national suicide prevention hotline where he learned to communicate persuasively with compassion, hope and tact. His commitment to helping others led him to attend law school.
Career
After graduating from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan, his legal career began as a law clerk for then Chief Judge Anne Barnes of the Georgia Court of Appeals before opening his own criminal defense practice, the Dominguez Law Firm. With hopes of becoming a person with the power to effectuate change within the criminal justice system eventually he left his practice to become a state prosecutor. As a prosecutor, Mr. Dominguez handled thousands of criminal matters, acquiring significant courtroom and jury trial experience along the way.
He became known not only for his trial successes, but also for his reputation as a conscientious prosecutor, discerning in creating opportunities for those in need of a second chance. His early work as a prosecutor spans several metro Atlanta counties, including Rockdale, DeKalb, and Clayton; allowing him the honor and distinction of becoming the first Latino prosecutor in the history of those judicial circuits.
Civil Litigation Expertise
Mr. Dominguez later left criminal law and transitioned into the civil arena, joining Thomas Kennedy Sampson and Tompkins LLP as defense counsel for several major corporations, insurance companies and government entities. Thereafter, he was able to use the knowledge he acquired on the civil defense side to advocate for plaintiffs, specializing in personal injury, negligent security and civil rights cases as a trial attorney with Morgan & Morgan. As a trial attorney there, he handled thousands of auto wreck, premises and civil rights cases and carved out a reputation for securing significant verdicts, transforming traditionally undervalued cases into multi-million-dollar successes.
During his time at Morgan & Morgan, Mr. Dominguez became a part of the leadership team as an equity partner and led the firm’s Georgia trial team, trying cases and supervising trials all over the state. Mr. Dominguez has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and is admitted to practice in each of the federal district courts in Georgia.
